Serio To Be Featured Artist At National Monument
Sarah Serio will be this years featured artist at George Washington Carver National Monument during their annual Art In The Park Day. Serio will be presenting a talk on her current series "Welcome To The Game: Human Trafficking In America" and giving attendees a hands on look at the process of printmaking.
Carver was an American agricultural scientist and inventor. While a professor at Tuskegee Institute, Carver developed techniques to improve soils depleted by repeated plantings of cotton. He wanted poor farmers to grow alternative crops, such as peanuts and sweet potatoes, as a source of their own food and to improve their quality of life. Carver had a talent for the art and playing piano. His talent of painting and drawing flowers and plants lead to his study of botany.
